What is the likelihood that spousal abuse could then also turn into child abuse?

Hi ~ I know know if there are any stats on that or not, but abuse is abuse. If someone is going to abuse their spouse, they're probably going to abuse ANYONE. It's obviously a power thing, and while they already HAVE power over a child, they want to make sure they KEEP power over the child -- so by abusing that child, they get it drummed into that poor child's head that THEY are the boss and that's the way it's going to be!
My ex was like that anyway, and he was very cruel to our children. He expected ONLY the very best from them and when they couldn't deliver, he went after them. There might be statitistics. I've looked but couldn't find any. Best of luck and God bless. Hugs, Lee ![]()

I don't know the statistics, either. I have heard it expressed, that as the victim of abuse stops taking the abuse, there can be a trickle down effect to the children.
Maybe a site on domestic violence may have something out there on this topic? Not sure. |

I had a look online too but couldn't find any. I would argue tho that children watching & living with spousal abuse is abuse anyway. No kid should have to grow up in that environment and it will effect them negatively.

I agree with riotgrrl.
But, there must be some info out there somewhere. Hey, someone ready for a thesis project? |

Agreed. Living with any kind of domestic abuse is indeed a form of abuse in itself.
