OK well here goes... I've been searching the boards for weeks looking for people going through a break up from the perspective of the one wanting to do the breaking up. I've yet to find a thread so here I am!

Obviously, I want to break it off with my long time BF of 5 1/2 years. The problem is he has the upper hand financially and I am afraid of hurting him because I don't want him to retaliate and take everything from me. The relationship has been an emotional controlling situation, so there really is no salvaging it... Fortunately, we don't have children just dogs. But I just don't know how to tell him... I've already had the "I'm not happy" talk a few days ago but I just wasn't able to tell him I was over this relationship. :/

I feel bad, I hate hurting people...

Please, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I just got out of a marriage, the relationship was in bad shape, but I still had a very hard time over the entire situation. Just explain him how it is maybe try counselling first. 5 1/2 years is a long time

Protect, what you need, before doing it.
Do you have someplace, to move to?

There's always, a Dear John letter.

My exh, was first person I ever officially broke up with. It's no fun, ripping out rugs, from underneath, but gotta do what's in your best interests. Roller coaster relationships aren't worth the price of the ticket....

It is never easy is it? No matter how much it hurts us, we are afraid to hurt them and we end up delaying and it hurts more. I have broken up with my BF multiple times, only to be pulled back in. I still haven't figured out how
