I'm in a new but serious relationship. My girlfriend wasn't drinking when we got together because she said it was a bad idea with her PTSD. She's wonderful, unless she's drinking. And then she lashes out and calls me names. Tonight I just left the room instead of engaging. I told her I didn't like being called names and was removing myself from an unhealthy situation and I went up to my bedroom because it was the healthiest option I could think of. Did I do the right thing? I feel guilty about her sleeping on the couch and I hate going to bed with unresolved issues. But if she's been drinking it isn't usually good for constructive communication.

It's true. It's better to not have a conversation, when a person is inebriated. If it would make you feel better, a loving gesture, is once she passes out, to cover her with a blanket. Otherwise, you are protecting your own emotional wellbeing.

Why is she still drinking, does she know it's hurting you? You did nothing wrong, so don't feel guilty.
