Does anyone have any recommendations for books or websites about how to have normal give and take conversations? I seem to attract people who just want to talk my ear off. I'd like to read about some techniques to politely bring those conversations back towards a give and take.

I read the 'Fine Art of Small Talk' last year and found it had some good tips for starting conversations with strangers, but I'm looking for something that has more to do with communicating with friends and family. Thanks!

Look up emotional intelligence. I don't have a specific rec but there are lots and lots of reviews.

Will do -- it sounds friendlier than what I've been doing, which is googling variants of 'shut up compulsive talker'
