We were together for about one year and half. It was pretty hard to make it work out and it almost did not work out well. I felt he was the one and still think so even if months have gone by since I decided to break up with him. I am temporarily living abroad and he suffers from BPD. Plus, he would not do any effort to make it work out between us. The fact is he did not even tried to get me back, not even a word after all this time. I have had the worst time in my life (not only because of our breaking up). I did all I possibly could to be with him but I could not bear it anymore. I do not want to be without him for I still love him but I know I have to leave him alone. I did contact him after four months or so, just because I needed to tell him I missed him so much and he would not even care. I am so heartbroken just like when it was just one day without him. I know I have to let him go but it just breaks my heart to realise that he does not love me anymore or ever did.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time letting him go. From what you've said, you are better off. It will get less painful as time goes on. Keeping busy and the passage of time will help. Best wishes.

Thank you! I truly want to convince myself that I am better off. I think so rationally but there is a part of me that is not as certain.

It's hard to let go of a love for someone, but eventually you will be able to put it in perspective, I have.

I met my husband about 6 months after my heart was shattered by someone that just wasn't good for me, I think of him here and there, I can think of the really fun times, I don't think about the bad anymore.
