I'm a gay man in my mid-twenties. I've suffered from various mental health issues for the majority of my life - everything from depression to extreme anxiety to attention and cognitive disorders. I do see a therapist semi-regularly (who I feel is no longer helpful, though I've gone through several therapists over the past several years for the same reason) and do take medication which I know hasn't been enough. I've been in a pretty serious relationship for a little less than a year. Overall I've been very happy in my relationship, but also chronically anxious, scared, depressed, etc (I've learned that even happy relationships are very hard and require constant attention and personal compromise, and are downright terrifying). I could really use some online support community, though I am fearful that this is more public than my comfort zone, and that posting too specific information may give things away (I'd feel terrible if anyone I knew in real life were to see this and potentially recognize something) but feel that being too general would not be helpful. I think I'm looking for some sort of closed-community (that would only be visible to members / won't show up on search engines) or perhaps a few like-minded individuals who would be open to discussions / advice via email (and I do think I've been through enough in life that I give some pretty darn good advice, but am just so terrible at doing so for myself!!) anyway I realize this is a long shot, but any thoughts or opinions would be a great place to start. Thank you!!

you could always ask members to private message you so that your conversations remain private. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

Hello, halcyonlights. Based on your post, I expect you would eventually become disappointed with the discussion and advice you seek here.

My suggestion is for you to seek therapy again. You and the therapist can formulate, implement, maintain and update a treatment plan. Making sure the issues you want to be discussed and any medication problems are going to be addressed in the plan should help you achieve a better result.

By the way, FAQ: Do search engines index the forums?

Yes, we allow search engines to index our community, to help others find emotional and mental health support online. We explicitly suggest members choose a username upon registration that is not used elsewhere online, to help with your online privacy.
