I keep running into this guy who lives in my dorm and he always looks so down about life. I can't tell something is troubling him and it makes me wanna talk to him!! Plus he's super cute so like yeah haha. And the last guy I talked to is a drug addict. Idk is it weird ? Like I wanna get to know what worries people but like that's pretty strange and invasive when we haven't known each other for long meh idk I'm a weirdo.

I wouldn't call it weird, but as someone else who has had that issue throughout my life, I would say that it is very good you recognize that in yourself now. I would try to figure out WHY you are attracted to these people. Is it because helping people makes you feel good? Do you feel like you don't fit in with 'normal' people? Are these people using you for your ear/help/money/time? Are you repeating patterns you learned as a kid, trying to recreate a bad relationship with a parent so it goes right this time?
I've found that as time goes by, I am more and more frustrated with this tendency in myself. I wish I had learned earlier on how to associate with 'normal' people - not that anyone is really normal, I get that. |

I tend to be attracted to people troubled in some way, not that I like seeing people troubled by things...but with a lot of issues I have I can sort of empathisize/sympathsize, so I guess I feel like I can relate to others with troubles as well...better than I can relate to 'normal' people who don't really know what its like to have mental health issues, or just a rough life in general(and mine isn't that rough compared to some, but no walk in the park).
I have been used by people, and its not been limited to the 'troubled' ones, so I do not think hanging out with more 'normal' people really means those people won't use you...that depends on the individual you are dealing with. There are essentially normal people I've ran into who are fine but then a lot are pretty judgemental about things outside the 'norm' or percieved norm or whatever. I do not see it as a negative trait, though you do have to be careful about overdoing it trying to help too many people out with more than you can for instance. Like you can't fix everyones problems for them but you can still be supportive to people and be someone they can talk to or whatever.

I too am attracted to 'troubled' souls. I think its because I (secretly) don't feel normal. I can identify with a lost soul because I am one.
I 'get' it. Most people don't 'get' me, most people would not understand the things I want to say. I have to be careful what I say cos 'normal' people would think I was crazy. |

My longest relationships have been with an agoraphobic bookworm and a middle aged junkie dancer. I think I have the exact same problem! I agree with the other posts, maybe you're just a caring person looking to help. Maybe you're a little troubled yourself and find comfort in the company of people going through difficult times. Either way, have fun with it!
