Hey guys

My boyfriend broke up with me two days ago (I'd seen it coming for two days) and I am really confused.

He said:
"I *really* like you"
"Of course I'm going to miss you"
"You need someone who loves you"
"I dont want to hurt you anymore, I can see that I am"

We had a PERFECT relationship and I was his best friend, the person who he always came to to share his frustrations and joys. The break up happened right after a fight - he is going away in January; I told him he was being insensitive to not act like he was going to miss me when he went away and he told me he needed space then two days later, bam.

I don't really know what to do? I'm trying the silent treatment now. But he acted like he was obsessed with me, there was never a moment when we weren't in contact, he was constantly touching me and being touchy feely, he was basically all over me all the time. It's weird for him to just drop me so easily.

WHAT THE HELL DO I DO

And what does this mean?

Thank you
Hugs from:

Hello The MagicFingernail: I'm sorry this happened to you. I don't know your ages. If you & your bf are young, my inclination would be to say this is just how young guys are (I sort-of was one many years ago.) It's also possible your bf has some other things going on that he's having difficulty handing & you have just become collateral damage.

From my perspective, I don't know there is anything to be done. He's said good-bye & that's it. Perhaps he never did really love you. He may have just liked touching you. And now he's going away, that will no longer be an option. If that is the case, then perhaps his dropping you is a blessing in disguise (?). You mentioned you're giving him the silent treatment now. But, hopefully, he knows you care for him (assuming you still do.) Beyond that what occurs to me is, in the words of the old saying: "set him free. If he comes back to you, he's yours. If he does not, he never was..." My best wishes to you...
Thanks for this!

"I *really* like you" he didn't say he truly loves you
"Of course I'm going to miss you" being together for quite some time, of course he won't forget you and will miss you
"You need someone who loves you" he meant you don't deserve him and hoping that someone will truly love you
"I dont want to hurt you anymore, I can see that I am" he is married maybe? or he is committed?

I agree with The Skeezyks, could be a blessing in disguise. Seems like he has guilty conscience IMO.

I do wish you the best.

Maybe when you told him that he was insensitive for not saying he was going to miss you while he was gone, something clicked for him.

I don't think you should read more into this than he said. He cares about you but thinks you deserve someone who cares more than he does.

It's been my experience as a woman that when men break up with you, they do and say whatever it takes to keep you from crying or getting mad at them. They may or may not mean what they say. They're just trying to get the breakup over with as quickly and painlessly for themselves as possible.
Thanks for this!

It sounds like there was some sort of disconnect between what he was feeling and what you were feeling. No relationship is "perfect". I have a feeling that you were into him more than he was into you. Sometimes relationships end and we don't really know exactly why, or the true thoughts of the other person. Sometimes we just have to accept what happened and move forward.

Thanks guys;
It does seem weird for him to not be into me, considering he definitely acted like he was - the whole works - jewellery, framed photos of us, constantly taking photos of us and putting them on Facebook, presents all the time...
Men don't do that for women they don't like?

Thanks for the replies
