I am on Social Security Disability my husband is the payee meaning he takes care of my monthly .
I like to know is anyone on SSD and lives on there own , like a one bedroom apartment ? Or are there adult group homes to live in if you can't live on your own and they take the SSD checks to pay for room and board ? I am married but I want to be ready if God forbid he passes away before me . I have no idea what I would do and I want to know before if and when it happens . We do have a will but I don't know how to live on my own . All the money in the world will not help me if I don't understand how to live alone or with my kids. I do have 3 kids one is ready to move out and my two others are in HS . And I don't want to be a burden to my family and move in with them I like to see if there is a way to live independently while on SSD ? |

Hello, It is good that you are thinking ahead, we never know from day to day what is going to happen. I know in my state they have assisted living places where you get the help you need. There are different levels of care it just depends on what you need. I think I would just check out some of the services your community offers, most can be found on-line now days. I wish you well.

I have friends on SSD who live on their own. I think you are smart to look into this now. Around here, there are waiting lists for both apartments and group living situations. It would be worth contacting the agencies responsible for these places and finding out what steps you can take to prepare. You could also tour some of the places to see if you'd like living in one more than the other or if you would prefer a solo apartment.
