Also, continuing on the excellent theme of digitizing, any stacks of papers can be scanned if there's some attachment to them. If your MIL can come to understand that hoarding is not normal, and that she has a huge problem, that would help a lot. It's still another hurdle to help her start reducing her hoard but a good organizer can help with that.
