I hope I can post this here, because my work relationships are such an important part of my life. I post the most here, and I don't feel comfortable posting anything personal in General.

I have a telephone interview tomorrow morning for the job I know hold, which is only a nine-month contract that is going permanent.

Passing the telephone interview is preliminary to getting the committee interview. I'd like to keep this job. It is a state job and has good benefits, and I am 9 years from retirement. I do not have anything much financially going for me for retirement. This school is a nice place, and I know folks here, so I'd really like to stay.

I feel as if I can rub people the wrong way without meaning to, and always wishing so much that I knew the secret of how to do that and just fit in the right way.

I hope y'all will wish me well.

Good luck!! If you've already had the job on contract for 9 months, this interview process is probably just a formality. They already know you can do the job. Just be yourself. You probably just think you rub people the wrong way. Try not to overthink it (easier said than done, I know) and try to relax and be yourself. Being yourself got you that contract and being yourself has you being considered for a permanent position. So, being yourself is a GOOD THING.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the fast responses of support. The interview is in about 42 minutes, and I came here first thing in the morning to get my dose of support.

I thought the phone interview went well. I was well-prepared. My nerves are a jangle. When I have an excess of nervous energy, find myself doing strange things, such as rubbing my hands together very fast. I guess I should go for a walk or bike ride or something.

Last year, I prepared by doing a mock interview composed of three counselors in the school's own career counseling center. This experience gave me insight into exactly what questions are on the formal list that is used! By building answers around a core list of one's strengths and using concrete examples, I have flexible "talking points" that can be adapted to the range of typical questions.

I knew all the people on the committee. I know at least think highly of me already. No member of the committee has any reason to dislike me.

Now I wait to hear if I get an in-person interview. This will include essay questions and a teaching demonstration. Oh my stars and garters, what a lot of flaming hoops to jump through.

Thank you again so much for being part of my support team!

I'm so glad it's over and you think it went well. From all you've said here, sounds like a "mere" formality to me; like they are pleased with your performance and ease with which they'll fill "this" job :-) because you're already there doing it well.
