Have a friend that had depression and we had gone out for a while until they struggled and said they needed space. Since then they had started texting again and we have hung out some too like the early days of dating again. I wanted to talk to them a few weeks ago about the depression and some stuff they said when they wanted the space but there was no conversation.
I just don't know what to do. I care so much but am afraid to continue without knowing if what they said was true or not. I have feelings I need to address and it seems like the best we can do to talk about anything real deep is in text.
I understand that in depression the have a hard time and probably can't say what they feel but if it starting to feel one sided. Some days there is a bit of attention for my needs but usually nothing at all. Anyone dealt with this?

How about phone conversations? I find sometimes plain English loses meaning via text, because there's many words that can have numerous meanings in context, and loses tonality, etc.
It's not unusual to withdraw when depression strikes.
Thanks for this!

I agree but they do not typically answer so I get stuck texting. I don't thin this is a text conversation to have. I just don't know what else I can do.
