Well, I'm receiving my associate's degree on May 15th. As some of you may know, I'm one of nine kids. My parents are divorced, Dad is remarried and Mom is single.

I invited everyone, and at first my Dad and Stepmom were coming, bought the plane tickets and all, and yesterday, I get a message that "something came up" and they need to deal with it immediately and can't travel for 6-8 weeks. I have mixed feelings about this. My dad was abusive and abandoned our family to be with this woman 13 years ago and has not and does not take much of a role in his children's lives. His attending is more the work of stepmom, I don't think he'd have ANY role in our lives if not for her. Being that it kinda puts me on edge to be around him, it is kind of a relief. However, He has made it for other siblings' accomplishments and I can't help but feel the sting of his apathy.

I'm certain that there is something truly wrong, like a health issue, and they're not blowing me off. I'm sure I'll get more details later.

As for the siblings, two are automatically off the list as they think I'm the devil over stupid fights that took place years ago. Three I have not heard from. The other 3 are coming, yippee! I actually said from the beginning, that I only care for my Mom to be there, I think I said this because if I care too much I'll just be let down.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Carry on..

Congratulations on your big achievement!

The people who matter will be there...

I get the feeling that if your dad was just apathetic, he wouldn't say "can't travel for 6-8 weeks". Although I don't know him.

Good luck to you!
Thanks for this!

I think that you have done all that you could do in order for him to be included in your wonderful accomplishment. Way to go on the hard work.
Thanks for this!
