The trouble is I am long-term unemployed, and I have social anxiety. The only hope I have given myself is that I might meet a woman at a social anxiety meetup group, and she might like me.

It's frustrating because I see people everywhere who are able to date and once again I feel different. I would like to have at least one girlfriend just to see what it's like.

Hi IT. How did you get on on the dating sites? Yeah I can't seem to find a partner either though I think that's as much down to my height (5‘2‘‘) as anything else. I've given up looking now. It has it's benefits. I can please myself where I go, what I do, what I spend money on etc etc. It's just the sex aspect but then that diminishes as you get older anyway.

Would you consider looking for a job? Do you have a documented disability? If yes vocational rehabilitation could help you. Have you looked into other job searching resources? Having a job, any job, even just part time will increase your chances in finding a date.

I don't go on the dating websites anymore, haven't for a while. I'm hoping I can meet someone at meetup groups

Good luck with job search. Ask your state ( if you are in the us) vocational rehab for assistance. With disability you can still probably work part time.

I woudn't assume that everyone who is dating is happily doing so. I think that many stay in such situations do so because they also don't wish to be alone - that a good many are just going through the motions.

I agree. Many people are very miserable in their relationships
