Well I can't share too much because we're kinda sworn to secrecy. In a word it was "heavy". Although it was nice being around people, I don't know if I really felt better afterwords. I did share my loneliness and hoped it didn't discourage the younger people in the group. I didn't want them to think that they were going to end up alone and regretful thirty years from now ☹️. There's another meeting in two weeks - debating whether to go or not. The good thing is it felt like a safe atmosphere. Thanks

That's great to hear you went!

I think it's worth it to try going multiple times. It might start to be comfortable when you get to know the others better. I'd definitely be feeling quite reserved at a meet up like that for a while. Hell, I've been seeing my counsellor for three years now and I'm still not fully open with him!

It is known to take a while for people in mental health groups to get comfortable and open with each other. I hope that you will give it a few more tries.

I don't know if I can wait around to build a social network. I'm feeling pretty checked out mentally and physically - I need lightening to strike. I felt so sad today - I'm not sure how many more rounds of this I can take. Thanks

You can take other steps besides going to this one group.

Well I think you should give yourself kudos for taking this positive step - it's been my experience when pushing out of the comfort zone it can be triggering, but that is usually only temporary.

Gains can take time, keep up these positive steps, keep your expectations realistic - in reality lightening doesn't strike, there aren't quick fixes. You will have ups and downs, but if you keep plugging onward you will make steady gains.
Thanks for this!
