Well I can't share too much because we're kinda sworn to secrecy. In a word it was "heavy". Although it was nice being around people, I don't know if I really felt better afterwords. I did share my loneliness and hoped it didn't discourage the younger people in the group. I didn't want them to think that they were going to end up alone and regretful thirty years from now ☹️. There's another meeting in two weeks - debating whether to go or not. The good thing is it felt like a safe atmosphere. Thanks

That's great to hear you went!
I think it's worth it to try going multiple times. It might start to be comfortable when you get to know the others better. I'd definitely be feeling quite reserved at a meet up like that for a while. Hell, I've been seeing my counsellor for three years now and I'm still not fully open with him!

It is known to take a while for people in mental health groups to get comfortable and open with each other. I hope that you will give it a few more tries.

I don't know if I can wait around to build a social network. I'm feeling pretty checked out mentally and physically - I need lightening to strike. I felt so sad today - I'm not sure how many more rounds of this I can take. Thanks

You can take other steps besides going to this one group.

Gains can take time, keep up these positive steps, keep your expectations realistic - in reality lightening doesn't strike, there aren't quick fixes. You will have ups and downs, but if you keep plugging onward you will make steady gains. |
