are more interested in being right than helping?
I feel as if they are. (Note I said "I feel"...) In itself, it's kind of a relationship/communication problem so I think it's relevant here... |

I've not noticed that but there are a lot of us and opinions differ.

I have noticed that on a couple threads that are just wash rinse and repeat.
Personally I get annoyed at times I can admit that. But as Rainy said ,,Lots of people and opinions.

Same thing here--I've mostly noticed just lots of opinions, and some people discuss their opinions at greater length than others. Personally, I can be wordy, but that doesn't mean I am trying hard to be seen as "right," it just means I'm really interested.
I really love to hear different opinions because I learn from them, even when I don't agree. So to me, everyone's willingness to share their opinions is one of the best things about this place. It kinda bugs me that so many people just lurk and don't participate and share their opinions. (chuckle) --Ceara1010

I think that most people on here are well meaning and helpful. Even if I don't always agree with what people say, I respect their opinions. I like the people on here. I have yet to see any bullies, trolls, or any mean and disrespectful people on here. I wish every place on the Internet was like this!

Even the debates are helpful, though. You never know what people can glean from it. And for the people who have the tendency to want to exhaust a point, they are getting socialization skills on here.

My personal experience here is that most people genuinely are here because they want to help and we're a supportive community.
I think that there are those in life who do have a need to drum a point in. I experience enough of that IRL so I tend to ignore it if I notice here ... ![]() But sometimes yes it irks me. |

Really? I see the opposite. I don't see enough constructive criticism..

I am trying to recall any posts where it's like that? Maybe I've missed a few threads?
I genuinely think that overall people try to be helpful. |

Mahatma Gandhi said:
“Many people, especially ignorant people, want to punish you for speaking the truth, for being correct, for being you. Never apologise for being correct, or for being years ahead of your time. If you’re right and you know it, speak your mind. Speak your mind. Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is still the truth.” He also said "Speak only of it improves upon silence" I agree with both statements depending on the circumstances which I think is very applicable here. Keep in mind everyone here either has a MI and/or loves someone with a MI. Perhaps argumentativeness or stubbornness can sometimes be a symptom of that MI or a result of one's life experience. Not everyone is going to agree on everything and sometimes listening to an opposing opinion can be a real opportunity to see something from another perspective which perhaps would never have otherwise occurred. Peace to all. ![]() |

it's annoying when that type of thing happens but I think generally speaking, there are all kinds of people here, including those that just want to argue and be right but many that also want to give advice and hopefully help! |

I think that most of us who argue try to do so in a constructive way. It is not about being hurtful. That is being supportive. Blindly agreeing with someone - especially when the individual is clearly delusional and in need of help is not supportive. In fact it could be damaging to them.

I disagree. I find most people here are here to be nice and supportive and it is not clear if people who post here actually are in a position to give advice. And I guess that includes myself. All you can do is give your honest opinion and give the other person a different perspective.

I don't really know why people post, neither do I care. As my wise t says it is pointless to try figuring out why people do what they do. We may never get the answer. We can only know why and what we do, in my opinion it's especially true about Internet anonymous forums. We don't even know who is who so we can't possibly know what motivates total strangers

I think we give what we know, trite though that may sound, there isn't really a right or wrong, what's helpful for one may not be for another.
None of us are experts but I do think the spectrum of perspectives is valuable, people can take what they want and leave the rest. |
