hello everyone, don't know where to post this but i need help!!
since i moved to the city of my uni, the only guy i actually socialized with was this guy from my uni class. the last week we often just hang out at the campus or went to see a movie or something. he is very chill but he talked sometimes about his Logic cult. ![]() i just want to play WoW and CS with him but he doesn't want to anymore. he says he doesn't care about these thinks anymore, he got totally brainwashed. we had so much fun playing games together here is the brainwash video he showed me i don't get how people fall for this, did you guys hear about this cult before? what do i do? Thanks for sharing the video, tricolor. I only watched 4 minutes of it, tbh.
Unless you are interested in further exploring his "cult," you best try to find other friends. Sounds like he's hooked, and he will not be interested in activities with you, i.e., playing games, etc. Sadly, no amount of talk or persuasion on your part will change his mind. |

There is nothing new about someone taking his or her brain out to play with it or being so "open-minded" that it can be re-programmed...and now it seems people have found a way for logic to replace "God" even though only One could have ever created the other.

I'm watching the video now and finding it really fascinating, but I'm naturally a very skeptical person, so I dunno what I think about its legitimacy. Still, I find it interesting. I think perhaps your friend has just found his or her own purpose and changed a bit as a result; that's fine. It may just be a phase.
Finished, and loved it. I am a very logical person, or at least I try to be. Not so much that I ignore my emotions though; I'm not Spock. ![]() I don't see it as brainwashing, personally. It would be nice if it had more facts and less fancy music, funky camera angles, and typical deep-voiced guy acting all mysterious, though. Hah. To each their own comes to mind, however.

I didn't watch the link. How long have you known your friend? The is nothing logical about any cult. I agree with Seeker, maybe it's time to find other friends.

Watched video. My take is:
This is the same premise as Buddhism, with an Aristotelian twist, in a modern packaging. The "inner child seeking safety" portion is very similar to the Buddhist "all suffering comes from attachment" principle. Essentially, both are saying: Let go of your illusions, and delusions, of what you think reality is. When you can let go of this need to be safe and have all your needs met, somehow you can see the "real reality" (disclaimer: I have some skepticism on the validity of this premise, having been abused by a spiritual teacher who forced this stuff on me "let go of your ego" he said, and there started my breakdown). I can see Aristotle's push to seek the pattern behind all things. I find it interesting how the video brushed by the important ethical question "Seek truth at what cost?" by pointing out the good things science has done, and only giving the bad things a minor mention as insignificant. Objectivism, as encouraged by the video, has been explored before. See the work of Ayn Rand (disclaimer: It is said if you read one of her books you'll turn into a jerk for 6 months. When I breached her work I took 6 months and read every one of her works I could get my hands on. The subsequent year was questionably jerky). Where is the compassion in Ayn Rand's work? Where are the children in her novels? Where is love, vulnerability, human connection? I challenge you to find it in Objectivism, for I could not. What I see in this video is a bunch of young idealistic people, exploring and reveling in being young and idealistic. I hope you find more friends and connections. ![]() |

The sun is slowly disappearing in the middle of the day? Must be an act of Divine proportions to get our attention!! We must right whatever it is that we did wrong to warrant said Divine act. And so goes the path our religions have taken, and as we have grown as a race, our religions have grown and cultivated and been derived from previous religions over the millennia or so we have occupied this planet Now, however, we DO have science and technology to help us delve ever deeper into the inner most workings of our very Universe, so the divide between it and faith is ever growing. I honestly don't see any harm in exploring your own way of thinking, or other ways of thinking to find one you feel suits you best, "god" or no "god" withstanding. It's all part of growing spiritually. To call one's faith a "Cult" because it's radically different from your own is, IMHO, a tad harsh. However, OP, you are you and I can't change your beliefs. Just as your friend is who he is and you can't change his.

Friends do not have the same beliefs....they do need to do more than focus on one activity/interest, to share, and to respect the other...if you can still do things together and find common interests, that is fine, if not, time to move on....
I am an atheist, my closest friends are not (one Catholic, on Born Again...) and we have been friends for decades...

Cult? Why would you choose to describe it as such? Because it is based on a group of ideas you are unfamiliar with. This seems more logical to me than the cult based on a virgin birth.
