I've been dating someone long distance since august. She is now joining the navy and will most likely get shipped overseas. I grew up in military home and know how to deal with separation from loved ones. I did it all the time as a child with my parents that's not the issue. The issue is. She might get stationed somewhere where communication is impossible. Or near impossible. For instance, on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Or something bizarre like that.

I really like this girl. I don't want her to disappear on me and not atleast be a friend. Her bootcamp ends come January, where we hope to finally get a chance to hang out. She also finishes her college degree soon. I finally got a job so I can save money to eventually do something with her. We talk whenever we get the chance. Life has restricted us to just online text messages and we are going to try sending letters soon.

I know the answer to this question is one of the following. To move on now before I get invested anymore, or to stick it through and see what happens and go with the snail mail route. Photographs and pictures and just make the best of lfe until a more prime opportunity arises. What are your thoughts on this? Do you want to know anymore details?
Hugs from:

My thoughts are that unless you met in person I wouldn't refer to her as a gf or make drastic decisions. Have you Skyped or did face time? It could be any one on the picture.

She won't be "stationed" in the middle of the ocean; she could be on cruise for a specified length of time, after which she will be on shore for a specific length of time.

Snail mail communication to boats is sporadic and unreliable.

She likely would have access to the internet from a boat, but she would be using shared computers and the service will be poor.

I am puzzled about the concept of hanging out with her after she graduates from boot camp. In my experience new sailors ship out of Great Lakes right away, the day of graduation or the next day, to their first assignments or schools.

we are planning on trying to hang out before she graduates bootcamp. She is finishing up college and bootcamp at the same time. So they let her go to her classes when she has them and that's how we talk right now.

She is gonna go to panama city for her school after bootcamp. So I also have the opportunity to hang out there. I am interested in shared computers / the shifty wifi. All I know is she says that there might be a chance she goes somewhere without wifi or electronics.

As questioned ... Have you met in real life yet? Knowing this you will get more informed advice.

Do you truly love her, or do you just like the comfort of a "relationship".

If you don't love her, cut your ties.

I think our relationship is too new to answer that question. I really do care for her and want to be around her and keep her apart of my life. I don't know how my days would without her. The days I have without her as is due to school and her military stuff is rough alone. Love is such a strong word and hard to really say.
