This is not fair.
My b/f has lived in my house for 2 years without paying a DIME for anything.
So I call a lawyer yesterday to find out what I have to do to get him evicted.

I have to get him evicted because I don't want to get an unfair restraining order. A restraining order would have him removed almost immediately and cost much less.

The lawyer tells me with all the fees...it is 900. So I pay for this guy to live, eat and sleep and now I have to pay to protect myself and get him out of here.

This is ridiculous.

Yes, it is. But if he won't leave on his own you may not have a choice.

Let's be realistic here, he lives in your house because at least for a time, you allowed him to do so. That it turned out to be less than ideal for you is something that happens in relationships. But I will not speak to what quality of person your bf is because only you know this. Let's not make the fact that he lives there all on him. Clearly you had a part in making that happen so yes, at this point you've realized he's costing you a lot of money with nothing in return but you weren't innocent in getting everything to the point it is now. You had a hand in it too.

Look at it this way if the $900 is making you choke. It's not entirely going to make you feel better but maybe a little. its either $900 now and be free of all the costs going forward which I imagine will far surpass that amount or endure more costly expenses as he continues to leech off of you.

Well that is crap and a terrible situation that you have to pay to get this imbecile removed.

Having said that.

Look at the eviction as a long term investment. Because once you get his sorry *** out the door; albeit at a cost; you won't have to babysit and pay for all his needs ever again.

Yes, there are laws protecting people in living situations. Be careful letting anyone into your home. Just let this be a learning experience. I am sorry the relationship went sour and he isn't enough of a gentleman to leave.

I didn't pay a dime to evict my ex-fiance. I explained it to the domestic violence shelter, they helped me contact the police and had his butt removed in a day. I didn't use a lawyer. He hasn't around for 7 years.

Things may have changed since then. Thankfully I don't have to worry about it now.

I think if there is some type of legal contract in place then you have to go through legal channels. But if there is no legal contract then is he really a tenant or just a guest? Confusing

It depends on the state. Here in New York if someone has been at your residence for I believe a month they can only be evicted through the courts.

He's taking advantage of you plain and simple. Slowly save up enough and then hire that lawyer

A similar situation saw me disconnecting the cable , buying no food for the house, and everytime I cleared up and found anything of his out of place I threw it out. Then got some male friends to play boyfriends and thankfully that was enjoying ugh. But some guys can be sneaky.

Had that problem in Florida also, I had to get him out ,gave him 2 weeks notice . He didn't move I printed out the mail I sent him showing he was given 2 weeks notice. I did not have to evict him, I told my neighbor to wait til she heard the fighting and me taking his shyyt out in the curb and call the police, they showed up and he was ranting and raging, they talked to use both individually and the officer told me Florida law said I had to legally evict But due to the fight and them being called was proof enough that he had to leave.

Just good for thought

Just be careful. It's really scary to have to live in a home with an adversary. I think I'd just move myself out and shut off all the power.
