Help. When I speak no one listens. Even when it's important like a court date. My attorney didn't hear me say three or four times what I'd settle for. The judge ignored me.

This is life long. What makes people automatically tune me out?

I was angry, but am leaning toward hopelessness.

Thanks.

That sounds complex if there attorney's and judges involved.

I'm not sure what the case is / was about.

Perhaps there were legalities involved as to why what you said you'd settle for was dismissed.

Have you asked why you were ignored?

Are you quiet? Timid? Shy? Do you dress so plain you just blend in?

I have an occasional problem where people don't seem to realize I'm trying to communicate with them, but more frequently the problem is that after communication is already established, they have trouble understanding what I say. (Sometimes they act like they understood but didn't, sometimes they ask me to repeat myself a bunch.) I suspect the two are related.

I haven't found a solution, but I've been suspecting it's something autism-related. (I have subclinical "autistic traits" in other areas.) Something about having the wrong body language, wrong tone of voice, and/or wrong choice of words. By "wrong," I mean it's not what the intended recipient of your communication is subconsciously expecting.

I don't know what that is either. Sometimes I feel like I am not speaking English, people don't understand what I say.

I'm sorry you couldn't get through to your lawyer or the judge. I hope the consequences of that were not severe.

Yes, or maybe your attorney was just following a given protocol or procedure related to an amount previously requested or offered. Concerning the judge, however, you have asked your attorney to re-present you even though you are present -- You are not "presenting" yourself -- and that means the judge will honor that by only listening to your attorney. Overall, however, I think it would not be unreasonable to ask your attorney to at least summarize the proceedings so you can understand and follow what is going on.
