After years of just staying at home, I've decided to try and get help for my issues and build my life up again. I'm seeing someone tomorrow who can maybe help me get the ball rolling. The thing is, I'm scared to death the people I go to for help won't listen to me! That they'll just try to ram their own opinions and views down my throat.

Just needed to share this..

Good luck. That's the first step!

If they DON'T listen to you, go somewhere else. Don't give up!

First thing you have to realize when you're going into therapy or asking advice of anyone else - they ARE going to give you advice based on their own opinions. It's all they can do. Their view and analysis of your situation is the only one they can have. That does not equate to not listening to you though. Keep that in mind.

I only say this because I don't want you to go into this with an unjustified bias and expecting the worst.

In reality though, there are typically a number of therapists that don't work the way we want or have methods we don't agree with but the good news is, that there are many others that will help you. If it doesn't work out, it's not the end, you can keep looking for a T that works for you. You're not stuck with the first one you find.

Hope this helps.
