The other day, someone I barely know made a comment that is rather odd. I know her because she works at the local library... I haven't seen her in a while, and then she came to see me because she wanted me to do some work for her.

Because she came to see me, we had a few short conversations. In one of those conversations, she said, "With hours like that, I thought you must have an appointment." I didn't respond. I have regular hours, but I do come in 2 hours later one day a week (that is the day I see my counselor).

Why would someone bring this up?

She's wondering what IS it that you are doing? (My H teases me about being a "curious woman") If you don't want her to know then it is perfectly OK not to respond. Just let her squirm. Some people are gossips. I'm not saying she is but IF she is then, soon, others would know you are in counseling too.

The few times we spoke about the job I did... she did make other comments that could be interpreted as being about gossip. And I just let her talk...

I have to admit that I have no control over what comments people might make. And I have no control over the existence of gossip.

Haters gonna hate.

Just do your thing and try not to let the naysayers get to you.

I do sometimes amuse myself by thinking, "the only reason you are making those insinuations, is because you don't know the half of what I've actually done and said (that I feel ashamed of and/or feel guilty about)."

Listen to the track by Eminem and Xzibit "Don't approach me".

"you don't know what I will or what I won't do".
