One of my friends lives 25 minutes away(by car). He told me he can't hang out anymore(I'm not sure if he meant just for a bit, or if he means he can't ever hang out again) because he said he doesn't have gas money to come over anymore. I can't go see him, because I don't have a car and I don't know how to drive. I can't do much of anything because I live in a town, with no public transportation. The bus is about 30 miles from me in the city(I don't live in a city). What would you do? It wouldn't really be reasonable to walk to see him either as it would take 5 hours(I have checked).

No I don't suggest you walk 5 hours. Why don't you ask him why he doesn't want to hang out. If it's lack of gas money then is he going to eventually have the money?

What would I do? Probably nothing. I mean you can talk on the phone. Is it romantic interest? What type of friend is he?

That sounds like an excuse to me. How much gas does a 25 minute car ride take? What if you offered to split the gas money with him? What if you had a family member drive you to meet him sometimes? I'm with divine. Ask him if this is temporary and when he will have the gas money.

Oh okay. Yeah talking on the phone isn't such a bad idea for now either. He is just a close friend.

It shouldn't(normally) cost more than about $5-$8. I could offer that to him. I could also try that as well. Thanks, I'll ask him that.

Honestly it sounds like a pretty lame excuse to me. Maybe this friend doesn't want to hang out with you anymore, for whatever reason.
