my anxiety is basically ruining everything. i tried joining this band yesterday and during the practice i blew it i couldn't sing right(forgot the pitch of the song) and my guitar amp broke before we even got started like the on/ off switch fell off... i couldn't stop thinking of not being good enough and messing up and it really happened! any advice?

I don't have any advice. I just wanted to say I empathize and sympathize. You have my support. Anxiety is tough. I'd rather have depression. I'm sure other posters here will have good advice. Sending big hugs.

When you are anxious, acknowledge to yourself nonjudgmentally that anxiety is present. Then say to yourself that you are going to proceed with your commitments and plans anyways--and proceed. Think of the anxiety as a kind of guest who stays longer than expected. You can acknowledge without judgement or resentment that this guest is present but still go ahead with your plans.

I would think than anxiety is a constant for many in your line of work. I certainly would be anxious if I tried to sing in public! Everyone makes mistakes, but how many times have you performed well in spite if your anxiety? Could you please tell us about such performances?

Oh wait you already did!!

So, the other day I got to play at an open mic. When I was done, and sitting down watching the next person after me play. The person in charge came up to me, she said "You have really improved since I last saw you out here. Your singing reminds me of a band called the Cars. If you haven't heard of them, you should listen to them
Have you listened?

Hang in there TheBoredOne!! You can do it!!

This is what we call, 'performance anxiety' which has the job of helping us to ultimately perform better in the long run. The more you practice, the better you'll get!

I am tune deaf so I admire people who can sing or play! It's amazing! I am sure anxiety and stage freight is common in your field. You are doing great!!!
