I don't really know if I should be posting this in Relationships, or General....
My mother, frail and in her 80's, has been throwing up (actually carrying a small trash can around with her) now for three weeks. I didn't know about this until my aunt who lives near her called me yesterday. I live 2 hours away, and I try to call her weekly. My aunt had just been to the drug store to get her many laxatives, which she has been taking in huge amounts, because she says she's also constipated. When my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer, he had been throwing up like this for some time before they took him to the emergency room in Charleston. Of course, I called my mother and talked to her. She's difficult under the best of circumstances.
Mom is scheduled for a physical and medical visit with her doctor this Wed, and says she's not going to go! My sister and I have discussed this, and we don't know what to do. My sis also told me that three weeks ago, before this all started with Mom throwing up, she had a big blowup with my aunt (my dad's sister, whom he asked on his deathbed to look after Mom). The aunt had requested prayer for Mom in church, saying she is a "shut-in." A neighbor told Mom of this and Mom blew up, called my aunt and threw a fit on the phone to her, cutting ties with her. I think this was the start of her health problems, and I'm sorry for my aunt, who faithfully called my mom several times a day.
I've offered to go get Mom and bring her here with me, but she won't have it. My sister and I don't know what to do.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Love
Patty

first of all I am very sorry to hear she is ill. secondly if she has all her faculties I don't think there is alot you or your sister can do about it. it is up to her. I know that sounds bad but we can't force them to seek treatment unfortunately. I pray she gets better soon though. (((hugs)))
