So I am a freshman in high school, and I’m sorry if this sounds like a pity party, but I came from a catholic school with a class of 18, where I didn’t need to make any friends for about 9 years (k-8th grade) and I’ve been a freshman for 6 months and I’m still sitting alone at a lunch table. I talk to people, but I feel like I don’t have any personality, so I talk about school. I don’t make a lot of eye Contact because of anxiety issues, but other than that, I actually have no freaking clue on how to make new friends or have an interesting conversation Tips?

I felt like an outsider when I moved from the city in middleschool to a rural area (A k-8th school with less than 100--eleven in my 8th grade class) but so much of the feeling of being an "outsider" is self perception. Whenever you move to a new place--the first year is a huge adjustment for most people. It will likely get better. It only takes one friend whom you truly relate to or who is someone who is part of a larger group of friends and then everything changes. The way I made conversation was to talk about my latest disaster. Some make friends by being in band or participating in a sport--both these groups eventually travel out of town causing adventures which develop friendships. In high school, one of my friends was always discussing how much she had prepared for tests and show me her excellent work and I would inevitably end up admitting to not studying or be finishing my work 5 minutes before class start time. When there was a writing assignment in English, sometimes I would ask if I could read what a friend had written which sparks conversation.....
