Is it interesting how a parent(s) influences define us for the rest of our lives.

That's for sure--even as adults in our sixties, seventies, and more! For good or bad....

Hi Detroitoutcast,

Yes, parent(s) do influence us. For a long time, I thought I was over my parents' influence. I found out I was severely codependent, and that went back to my childhood days. I joined CoDA and I am better able to deal with things like negative messages from my parents and take better care of myself. My parents raised us to the best of their abilities. Yes, it was flawed, but they loved me.

I have to disagree with the word define. Influence and impact, definitely. The only one who truly gets to define you is you.

The way a parent or parents model behavior for us lasts a lifetime.
