When I socialise this time of year, it seems that everyone is playing some automated routine under the influence of alcohol. There are some nice people but who never initiate contact because of no self-esteem; then there are people who are so impeccably varnished that all I can see being reflected in that varnish is me being not polished enough. Nail varnish, glitzy dresses - I don't do that any more because I choose to save money for things that I really love.
The only exceptions are my neighbours because life has thrown us up together through good times and bad, so I can distinguish their personas from the real people hiding behind all that. I know this is because I didn't grow up in a family that created confidence and choice in how to handle social situations. How do you get to meet the people behind the drunken personas at this, or any, party time? Saidso |

I understand how you feel, saidso. Perhaps you could try to initiate contact with some of the shy people? I know it's not easy, but since they're shy as well, perhaps it may be a little bit easier than with other people. As for the others, I'd say their lifestyle simply isn't for you, and that's totally OK. Just try to understand who are the people you really like. Sending many hugs to you

How do you end up in company of drunks? I’d say you can certainly find people who don’t need to be drunk in order to socialize.
I am fairly social person, this week I have some type of social event every day. None involve alcohol consumption. Granted tomorrow I’ll have a glass of wine at Christmas party but it’s not going to be drunken party by no means. Are you being invited to these type of parties? Is there any chance you can find classier crowd? I don’t know your age or living situation/location so hard to advice where you can meet decent people. |

Hi Saidso, I agree with Divine that they might be the wrong group of people for you. Another type of social setting might be more suitable for you. ![]() |
