So I got a work colleague at work who's phone's been broke for several weeks. I promised I'd try and get my old phone working for her and offered her it, but my old phone is completely dead, won't switch on at all even after being charged up. She knows my old phone is dead.
I found a cheap phone that I managed to get for her, after I already got a christmas present sorted for her. Would it be acceptable to tell her the cheap phone I came across is a "cast off"? Or would it be better to tell her I bought it special for her? She's going through a horrible time at the moment and want to do something nice to help her but I don't want to make her feel awkward (this word don't look like it's spelled right) Just asking, if that's okay ![]() Last edited by Anonymous32891; Dec 17, 2018 at 02:34 PM. Reason: why are the icon things not working right? crappy old crapfart of a computer :/ |

I don't know that you have to say anything at all as to the source, Whisper, unless she asks you; then maybe you could say something like "saw this at the store and thought it might work for you," or something like that.

Oh for sure....give her the phone as it is a gift from the heart. If she says that she hasn't bought you anything or feels embarrassed, just say...'Oh thats ok, it's something you need...just buy me a coffee when I'm having a bad day.'

Would it be ok to say to her that I just want her to be okay?
I worry about her cause of the crap that's going on for her at the moment ![]() ![]() |

I think because it's from the heart whatever you have to say would be fine. That is super sweet of you

I just texted her on her husband's phone to tell her I got her something but didn't say what
![]() I got her husband's number simply cause she's using it while she tries to get her broke phone fixed, which don't look like it'll get fixed any time soon ![]() |

Whispershadow, I think that's lovely of you. I think it's perfectly acceptable to say something like, you found this and thought it might work for her, or that you "picked this up" because you thought it might work for her. Something like that. Hugs Kit.

Hi Whispershadow, I agree with Quarter Life. By giving her a phone, she will know you have been thinking about her and care about her. Letting her know she can "pay" you back later reduces any awkwardness she may feel when getting a gift without buying you one. You are being very sweet. It's okay to be concerned about her, but there is only so much one person can do. ![]() |

You're spelling "awkward" correctly, Whisper. And your intention in giving the phone is loving. I think that will protect you in a certain way.

In my experience, the best way to deal with most people is by telling them what they want to hear and be done with it. Some people will flip out over the truth and there is no sense stressing yourself out over it. After all, we ALL lie.
But yeah, nothing wrong with used presents. I don't think I ever bought somebody a new present, aside from maybe something cheap like a card or candy. I'm just a cheap *** lol |
