I work with a girl who has a large mole on her chin-bigger than a pencil eraser. Why doesn't she get it taken off? I was talking to her the other day and at one point she lowered her head and covered the mole with her hand out of embarrassment. Is there any way I can influence her to see a dermatologist? I have had a number of moles removed. I sure don't have any aversion to doing it. My dermatologist said to use any product for wart freezing which you can get at the pharmacy. It works just great. There is some psychological block going on with her and others you see with the same condition. I feel so sorry for her and wish I could help out without being blunt about it. Just had a thought. If I could find her car I could leave a kind note anonymously.

no there is nothing you can do to have your friend get rid of her mole. its her body and some cultures and religions feel moles are sacred/ shows worth and beauty and other things too.

im wondering if maybe she covered her mole while talking to you because she may have noticed you looking or glancing at the mole.

since most people who have moles are born that way its usually their normal until someone points it out to them.

maybe next time you are with her you can share mole experiences that will help her to be less uncomfortable.. example one time when I noticed someone staring at one of my moles I spoke up and said "I think for Halloween this year Im going to buy one of those large witch noses to go with my cheek mole what do you think?" the other person laughed, apologized for staring and asked me if I had ever thought of having it removed. I told them nope. why its as much part of me as their freckles, then asked them if they ever considered having that very large freckle on their upper lip removed? she smiled and said no but look at this mole on my arm I would love to get rid of that... then we kept talking about growing up with birth marks, freckles and moles

also can I say please be careful of the wart remover as a mole remover. moles and warts are vastly different warts are viruses and infections vs moles are excess skin patches complete with deep roots that normally needs a doctors surgery to remove because they go deep under the skin. I know someone who tried using wart remover and ended up with skin cancer because the wart remover took off the top of the mole but left a very irritated root. the skin healed over it and the root of the mole continued as is under the skin sight unseen. if she hadnt shared with her treatment provider that she had used wart remover in that spot she would have lost her arm and life to cancer. not saying this will happen to you, just that I wanted to share with you what happened to a friend when doing this do it yourself rather than the doctor process. please be careful.

It could also be a medical issue...certain types of moles have their own blood supply, and are problematic to remove without permanent scarring.

And yes...Please do not every attempt to remove moles anywhere on your body with over the counter products...always consult your doctor or be referred to a Specialist Dermatologist.

It's admirable that you want to help your friend, kreg! However, I'd say it's her decision whether or not she wants to remove her mole! What makes you think that she may feel uncomfortable about it aside from the episode you've mentioned? Did she ever give you any hints about it? I'd suggest to just be honest with her and see how it goes from there! Just be kind to her! I'm sure she'll understand what you mean! I also completely agree with all the other wise, wonderful posters! Please keep us updated as much as you can and let us know how it goes! Sending many hugs to you and your friend, kreg!
