Do you ever find you must force yourself to spend time with people you'd rather not be around?
Or do you find ways to avoid those people? I've tried both responses- and I think I find avoiding people to be the best solution for me. What about you? What have your experiences been like?

I do this all the time.
I tend to split people up in to 3 categories - people who I want to spend time with - people who I don't really want to spend time with, but do it because I want to be polite and then people who I really don't want to be with, even out of politeness |

something else I'm quite good at is faking emotion.
say if I don't really like someone and they tell me I'm going away or I won't see you for a while, I'm good at acting sad and upset around them, but in real life I don't give a **** |

I think the older I get the less inclined I feel to spend time with people I don’t want to be around. Sometimes it’s ok to be around certain people for short amounts of time but some people are best avoided.

i guess i used to to this when i was younger, now that im a bit older i dont hang out with people or go to activities or functions im just not that into. i dont force myself into situations i dont have the energy to deal with anymore. i dont have the time or energy to put on that fake front, and to be honest why should i? in the name of fitting in? no thanks, i'll hang out with my book or a movie. the only place i do the fake front is at work and i think we all do that to a degree.

I do. Unfortunately, my parents are included here. They drive me nuts and can be very toxic. I’m so anxious taking to them on the phone or visiting I avoid it. They do not understand where I am coming from. It leads me to feel guilty.

I was recently downsized from a job I had for many years. At that job I had to put up with needless crap from a coworker that sdid it just for the fun of it. Afterwards I was granted disability payments for my asthma. I decided than and there I was gonna be around anyone that liked giving me grief. That includes somene I've known since 10th grade. Best decision I ever made. I went as far as changing my phone number. Only people I get along with have my number.
You have choices in life. Why not chose to shut the very people out that like giving you grief! |
