The guy that I like is very reserved and doesn't want a relationship. This is significant because it is a pattern that I've always followed. I want a relationship but I always choose the "safe" guys. I enjoy the thrill of liking someone but am nervous about being in an actual relationship. This presents problems when I like a guy that does want a relationship. I always run away and immediately end things. I want to be able to have a long-term relationship, but I'm always worried that I'll run as soon as things get more serious. I feel bad and as if I'm 'using' a guy when I like him, because I know that something long-term probably won't come from it.

Maybe you will become ready for a relationship one day, and just aren’t now. Talking to a therapist about it should be helpful.

Yes, as TishaBuv [first comment] said, maybe you're just not ready for a relationship as yet. I mean, it's a commitment and a responsibility in many respects as you obviously know.

I think one of the things here is also, try not to seem available for a relationship if you know you're going to run [as you put it]. We don't want to be hurting other people's feelings along the way now do we.

You'll get there don't worry. I think it's right not to go diving into the first person that comes along.
