I think saying you need space is very good, although you're not confronting the actual problems with her directly, so I'm afraid that the problem will not just resolve on its own without you being specific about what's really bothering you. The same pattern will repeat itself if it's not confronted. If it were me, I'd tell her point blank that the same issues we were having in our communications a couple years ago have resurfaced again, and you're doing the same things now that you were doing then. Then you can give specific examples while also using "when you do this, I feel" statements. That's what I would do.
