My family fell apart and left me on the streets as a teen. It had been bad for years but it got so crazy that I had to leave and my possessions were thrown away. I managed to "make my own way" but it never stops hurting. I can't forget how they humiliated me. It feels so embarrassing to have no family and no support system. They won't acknowledge anything, not even any estrangement. Even if I contact them again how am I supposed to trust them. I will not pretend nothing happened. But they can't get over themselves.

So what do I do now. Just keep living life with no family? Or contact people who will humiliate me. Or make my own family, except I don't know where to start. All that work I put into myself and in the end life doesn't seem worth living.

@Murin welcome to MSF My Support Forums. It sounds so rough to have so much loss so early in life. You sound like a survivor though, so kudos to you for toughing a difficult situation out.

Hope you find the site supportive, look around and maybe make some friends. There are many forums and people posting with different issues.

I wish there were easy answers for the questions you pose, but I think you have found a way to go on, but maybe now you can find people online and real life that can be a friend. There are many organizations of different types that help people get on their feet after difficult situations. I hope you can find some that suit your disposition.

Trust is something a person has to develop in themselves. Learn that when things fall apart it never means you did not deserve to be cared about. There are times where the best thing to do is disconnect and you are not alone in having a dysfunctional family where it’s better for your mental health to exclude from your life.

I have been dropped by my family as well. It is very hard to make new friends.

One thing I have learned is that it isn't me. Family is getting really messed up in this society. I think it is because manners have gone out the window and if you have a toxic family member (or a few) they will just do what thy want and don't even have the concern that they would for a stranger. There are some threads on "Reddit" about entitled people and there are just SO MANY FAMILY members that are toxic.

My goal is to make one good friend every year.
Thanks for this!
