Does anyone know standard policies on maternity leave? I'm getting married and I found out my company doesn't pay you while you're on leave. Is this a standard thing? I'm not pregnant yet but we're planning ahead!

It's stressing me out so I'm wondering about everyone else's experience.

I think maternity is mostly unpaid. I think you would have to ask your company about that one as it is on a company by company basis.

Yack, planning ahead is great!

First off, you should be able to get a copy of your companies policies from human resources that should explain the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act). That is normally unpaid leave. For maternity leave, if you have any vacation/sick/personal time available, you should be able to use that time up while on leave.

I hope you find the answers to your questions easily! Good luck with the planning info on maternity leave (I'm not pregnant yet)

There is a little hitch there, you're not paid for maternity leave, but you can be paid for medical leave or short term disability (if you have these things). Having a baby takes a toll on your body and your doctor needs to release you back to work after delivery. I was off for 6 weeks with the twins as they were delivered via C-section.

Thanks for the info! I asked someone who recently came back from leave and she said she was paid 70% for 6 weeks. After that she had Family Leave but was unpaid.
