I'm going to tell my sister that I just don't want to see her right now. Should I preface it with "I hope you don't take this the wrong way" ?
She's taking away my rights by inviting herself over. I've been able to put a stop to it, but I'm starting to feel like a victim. I hope someone will be here for me when the spit hits the fan. |

Hi Doh, is the issue with your sister that she comes over unannounced? If so, rather than saying "I don't want to see you", which sounds quite global and rejecting, how about saying something like, "I really need time for myself right now, so I'm asking everyone, both friends and family, to give me warning when they want to visit, so we can set a time up that works for us both. Can you call the next time you want to get together?"
Would that work?

The issue is that she's an energy vampire and I just don't have the energy. I ended up telling her that I just didn't have the energy to see her right now. Luckily, she emailed back asking if there was anything she could do. That was nice. Whew.

Can totally identify with this. My mom is an energy vampire too. Needless to say the way I handled telling her not to show up unannounced was probably not the best way but....it worked.
I hope things work out for you. I know what it's like to have someone like that in your life. It stinks.
