Pros:
explains Borderline Personality Disorder very clearly in an easy to understand way.
Cons:
too manu vignettes
My 1st Psychiatrist diagnosed me with Borderline Personality Disorder on his first evaluation of me in 2003. He did not tell me this. In 2007 my psychotherapist hinted around at BPD then gave me a copy of this book to read, then never mentioned BPD again, in fact he tried to steer me away from it. I think he just didn't want to deal with it. He was my therapist for 11 years then he just quit without notice. I did extensive research and chose my current therapist who is fully trained in dealing with BPD & MDD and several other areas. This book is a good stepping stone to understanding Borderline Personality disorder but I also read books by Gunderson and several others to become more informed.

Pros:
Somewhat clarifying in description of BPD
Cons:
Limited discussion of BPD and BPD treatment
Everyone seems to recommend this book to someone looking for more information about BPD, but I think there are better books, including "Sometimes I Act Crazy" by the same author/s, and Understanding the Borderline Mother by Christine Lawson, as well as various websites.
I was glad to see that in their 2nd book on BPD, the author/s present a more positive prognosis for those with BPD and acknowledge a broader array of effective treatments.

Pros:
very interesting as well informative
Cons:
Somewhat outdated
This was my first book I read about BPD after being diagnosed and acknowledging it. For so many years I refused to believe that I had a personality disorder... but I went ahead and did some research and read this book. I couldn't put it down! I was stunned -- was this book written about me!? I re-read the book multiple times over a long weekend, continually going back and taking notes.
This book opened my eyes. It may not be the "best" BPD book but I am grateful that I had the opportunity to read it. It changed my life...and probably saved my life as well.
Great introduction to learning and understanding BPD.
