Many in this forum, including myself, are trying to wrap their heads around a past/present occurrence of transference leading into an emotionally fraught intimate relationship. It is personally a gigantic relief to me that I am not alone, although I would not wish it on anybody. Mine was 13 years. Every time I see a post from someone headed to that slippery slope I want to scream GET OUT, but having been there I know how seductive and flattering the provocation is. We all think at a certain point that we are special. The flip side is, at least in my experience, that these are people who have a professional career, reputation and (typically) family to protect.

I would be very interested to hear from anybody whose non-traditional relationship actually had a positive outcome. I'm neither judging or looking for hope for myself-I am done. But I have never heard of such a case and would be very interested in the story.

I have a client who married his therapist. They seem very happy together and have been married quite a while. I know one other person who started a relationship with her long term therapist - two years after therapy concluded. They are living together now and although they have had some rough spots, seem to be doing as well as any other couple.

I think it's revealing that your post has over 150 views and one reply. Maybe it's b/c if it is good, they aren't on this forum. Or maybe it's b/c it is just so damaging.
You should do a counter-post. Just a count on how many would speak up in regards to the opposite.

Excellent idea. Thank you. The feedback will help me a lot.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
