Hi emwell2,

This is a good question.

I remember my first consultation with my current therapist.

One of the first things she said to me was, "I'll tell you straight up when you are crossing the line with me".

So far, she hasn't told me I'm crossing the line.

I, personally, do not have the kind of relationship with my T where I ask personal questions.

I wonder what other member's experiences are?

I am sure there could be ones that are quite different to mine. I'd be interested to hear responses on this one.

Depends on your therapist. Prepare for the likeliness that the question will be dodged and discussing why it matters instead.

I asked my therapist: "If you also had bipolar disorder would you tell me?" She said she probably would.

It depends of your therapist's way of treatment. Personally, i hate these kind of therapists that doesn't likes to be asked about some aspects of personal life, this makes the session cold and uncomfortable

I ask my therapist personal questions and every question that I asked he answered. Everything ranging from if he dealing with or had dealt with what I'm dealing with (history of abuse) to even random questions like what did he do the past weekend or what is his wife like. I personally wouldn't be with a therapist that felt creeped out by patients asking questions.

Yes it is, I have asked previous Therapists personal questions before and most of the time they have answered them.
