So ever since I admitted to ET with my male T, which he handled quite well and said it was common I had noticed some changes in session since then but he doesn't seem uncomfortable at all but I'm wondering what this is all about...
I have been making more eye contact with him than I was before (I'm a bit more comfortable now, the ET isn't as bad either) and when I'm not looking at him he is looking at me but I noticed when I look at him now he looks away, in fact he's looking away more often now than he used to. He doesn't meet my eyes for long after I look at him and in fact he isn't staring as much in general. Before I had admitted to the ET I would catch him smiling out of the corner of my eye when I wasn't making as much eye contact. He still does this and it's usually when I'm silent, it does make me smile when I see him doing it. Today when I was looking at him when he smiled after a bit of silence I said "what?" and he said "you're probably wondering what I'm thinking" and I said "yes" and then he said "nothing in particular, just wondering what you are thinking". He does this smile thing a lot not just once in a session. He does this smile thing a lot which is really kind of what makes me get a bit fuzzy and I wonder if I blush because I certainly have a grin on my face I just wonder what the hell he is really thinking and what the smile is all about. I wonder what the heck my face looks like before he smiles. Not sure what to think about this, hope he's not uncomfortable unless there's some countertransference going on but he certainly has not given me any indication he's uncomfortable based on his body language or what he's said after we talked about the ET. |

Hi Nutters,
From what you provided, it's not clear to me what your T is feeling. With that said, maybe he does have some countertransference. In my unprofessional opinion, as long as it's not hindering the therapy or hurting you, there's nothing wrong with that. Have you considered asking him outright how he felt about you telling him about your ET? Or even how he feels about you? I did that with my T and it helped eliminate some of my anxiety surrounding my ET. Quote:
