I am feeling off. My computer is down and waiting on some new disks to restore different computer. Just left the ER with husband. He had three spider bites on his leg. They had to run IV antibiotics through him. Nurse got snappy with me when I started asking questions about the medication. I know I have the right to know what he is taking and how it works. Please pray for me I am ready to collapse plus I am back to working more. I have got to get back home now. My office just happens to be right by the hospital. Thought I would work some to ease up the tension. I am going home and take my medicine and read my bible and pray. Thanks everyone who reads my ranting.

I agree faylowell, you did nothing wrong and you very well should have asked as many questions as you wanted to about the meds given to your husband. Sometimes it's difficult in the ER because you are tense and the personnel there are under pressure time-wise although they also know they are suppose to give you the info on the meds. Some places have printed sheets on the meds, some don't. Just depends. Try to let it go and do a little mini-meditation to bring your bp down and some calmness to your mind. I know this is an old post so I hope you were able to calm down and his bites are better by now.

Thanks for the replies. His bites are doing better, however my nerves are on end. It seems that I am a panic attack waiting to happen. I blew up today and let my husband and mother know that I was just one person and I couldn't do everything at once. When I am this way, my phobias engulf me from every angle. Plus, I can't get online to be on PC for help when I need to because my computer is down and I am waiting on the disks to restore it. Please keep praying. I am going to the church tonight for some one on one time.

Hi Donna,

I am sorry your husband is in the hospital. It is hard for the person in the hospital, and it is hard for the person who still trying to keep things going in real life. I went through a similar situation with my husband this summer.

It really makes everything feel worse when the medical staff do not know how to treat the family in an empathetic and professional manner.
I have been feeling off too.

Smart woman for going to the Word for comfort and strength.

EJ

Thanks for the replies. My husband is actually at home and I am changing the bandages. I, now, remember why I have an Accounting degree and not a nursing degree. We are going through a lot of bandage material. I went to the feed store today and got the wrap used on horses to use on his legs to keep the dressing on the bites. It was much cheaper than buying tape or ouchless tape in the store, plus it comes in a variety of colors. My niece is ready for me to use the purple wrap. LOL.

The thing that stressed me out the most about the nurse was, she acted like I shouldn't ask. I had never heard of the antibiotics and my husband and I have taken our fair share then some. One of the other nurses who was cleaning the exam rooms called out to me that it was used to treat these kinds of infections. She just happened to be a friend. For everyone's information this is what I found out about the antibiotic pills and the ointment. They are used to treat these mega bacteria that are extremely hard to kill. The pill for the name brand is over $400.00 for forty pills, $110.00 for generic. The ointment is about $115.00 and there is no generic. These kind of things you like to know upfront. Thanks to my husband's prescription coverage, we only had to pay $55 for the two. The pills make him extremely sleepy. And oh, he was suppose to be on bedrest which she omitted to tell us. Found out last night when we went to eat where my mother works and the doctor was in there eating with his small son. He asked my husband what he was doing out of bed. My husband told him, he was going back to bed as soon as he finished eating. The doctor gave him clearer instructions in the restaurant which I feel the nurse should have told us about when she released him.

We live in a very small town and this doctor isn't my husband's regular doctor. The doctor is actually a children's doctor which in a way is probably the doctor my husband needs to see since he acts like a child when he sick. HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Thanks for all the prayers.

Hi faylowell! Glad to hear your husband is donig better. Those spider bites are awful. 3-4 years ago, my husband got bitten by a brown recluse spider and contracted MRSA staph at the hospital. We had to pack about 6 inches of gauze in his leg every night, so I kow you must be stressed. I think most men act like children when their sick lol just hang in there. I hope you computer is better too. Bye!

You need to report the nurse to the administrator. There is no excuse for behavior like that. You are allowed to, and very wise, to ask as many questions as you want! I am super sensitive when people snap at me and I start second-guessing myself. Don't take on her junk! You have enough to carry around. I don't know why people just cannot be nice, it's not that hard! And in her case, it's part of her job!
Thanks for this!

Thanks for all the replies. My computer is up and running at home now. As far as reporting the nurse, no problem, I am friends with the adminstrator's assistant (we attend the same church) and she took note of the problem and addressed it.

The doctor scolded me yesterday for trying to treat a pulled muscle myself. He upped my blood pressure medications and gave me a strong muscle relaxer. He told me I had to take care of myself. My husband is doing much better now.

Thanks for the prayers.

I think that is tooooo cool. Never would have thought of it. We have a feed store half a mile from our house. Will try that next time.

Can we see a pic of him in the purple bandages?

Maybe wrap some lights around his leg and hang a garland around his neck and you'll have your own Christmas tree...up close and personal?

Remember to take care of yourself because all of us love you and care about you!
