The Profit that walked among us.

When I went to visit my grandmother she would always tell me stories of her ancestral tribe. The one that stayed with us the longest was the story of a wise man that walked and talked with the medicine men of her tribe many years ago. As to it authenticity I do not know but to me it is true to my heart.
….There was a time that a man of strange cloths visited with our grandfathers. He was a kind and giving man. You could tell just by looking at him that the Great Spirit walked with him. For those that would sit and listen he told them of many wondrous things. Not only about the physical world but of the land of our ancestors. The Good Red Road. He reminded the people that the Great Spirit was found in all things for he had created the world in his spirit. The wise man taught the people that as you treat the earth and each other that is how you treat the Great Spirit. He even told of thing to come. One such thing, he told of the black cloth people and how they would come and teach of a different way of life. He told them to tell them that he was here and that He was still the one that was foretold to bring peace to all. This was how they were to let the black coats know that he was here. For those that chose to walk with him during his stay he blessed and taught them to love all things to treat each other with love not hate. This was the story that allowed me to accept that all white church teacher were not all fork tongue that there was good men with in the church. But it was also this story that allowed me to keep my duel heritage of faith and to know that the Great Spirit and God was one and the same being. When others question this belief I in turn ask why the Father of all things would not let his presents known to all people. The Great Spirit, Father of all things, God is what saved me and help healed me from the darkness of man.

Thanks for that. I am actually almost full blooded Irish married to a man who is half Irish/half Cherokee. I loved it, plus where I work at, I am not allowed to have any religious sayings where others can see, but I am allowed anything about American Indian culture including referring to the Great Spirit. Now, in my heart I can have both at work without breaking any rules.

I/we too are from the decent of 'mostly good' white church teachers and our husband is part Cree as are our children. We, have no idea of the exact tribe but it does not make it any less so...even if some tried to separate.

This is good to learn about the presence of the 'wise prophet' and how it helped us resolve the dilema of where our allegience is. We could understand about this presence through the son of god, being the teaching we know.

My mother-in-law was the gentle carrier of this wonderful heritage, however, her lips were sealed but not her congenial behaviour. No that could never be supressed and now our daughter and our niece carry this same light. Humbling to say the least.

We feel very sad for our husband's mom and his family and now our children that they never got to receive the knowledge of this first nations history growing up as we only were told much later. We will try to go to that community someday and ask what we can do to learn more. We hope to live long enough before it maybe is no more.
