So I have PTSD and I was talking about triggers and what can make you flashback. Well, I woke up this morning with a shining black eye, a real bruiser, looks like a was hit by Mike Tyson, how did I get it.. well, yesterday my Great Dane dog decided she'd smack her skull bone into my eye brow bone and we went for the clash, I didn't think about it till later when the bruising started to come out, well this morning I look like I've done 10 rounds in the ring, I oddly looked at my face and the trigger was it put me back 20 years to my violent abuse by my exboyfriend who was a boxer incidently and left many a bruised eye on me, so I go to the store with my son and can't help people noticing my black eye, and them forming an opinion as I stood their at the cash register. It was hard for me to look in the mirror today, and see the bruising staring back at me and it was a very triggering moment but then I look at my lovely Great dane and it all slips away, her eyes melted me and I knew she was there for me. God works in mysterious ways. God is good.

Yeah, I wouldn't even bother trying to explain that one to strangers. Few people would believe it was the result of running into a Great Dane - a Greyhound maybe - but not a Great Dane.

I have systemic amyloidosis, which includes corneal dystrophy. I had just gone through a particularly rough phase physically and hadn't slept or ate in days. I had an appointment with my eye doctor, so I was frantically trying to restore my balance and clean up before seeing him. As silly as it sounds, I wanted to look my best for him. He usually has all his students, residents and colleagues lined up to "oooh and ahhhh" into my eyes.

I managed to shower and put on fresh clothing. It was getting late, so I dashed back into my bedroom to get my sunglasses.

I have a 155-lb. Bernese Mountain Dog who loves me dearly, and it upsets her when I'm sick.

When I dashed into my bedroom, she was lying on the floor in my way. I thought I could quietly step over her, but it startled her and she stood up. She's 30 lbs. heavier than I am. It catapulted me head first into the edge of my dresser, hitting the bone just below my eye.

People bruise easily with amyloidosis. By the time I made it into the doctors office, I not only had a black eye - I was covered in bruises.

My doc completely understood and believed what happened because he treated my mom too - but he was the only one who believed my dog did that to me. It really made me angry when my neighbors suspected those bruises came from my husband - they should know better.

To avoid this from happening in the future, maybe you could get a T-shirt for your dog that says "I'm as hard-headed as my master."

My Caleb has done that, especially when he brings me something in bed, and drops it onto my face... Out in public I just say, You should see the other guy!

Yeah, our doggies are pretty safe.

Yes, total exposure therapy, I came away with an understanding of a message of some sorts yesterday, but my eye was sore as ****. I have two danes so if one doesn't get ya, the other one does. lol...

Kathy, my friend breeds Bernese Mountain Dogs, she must have about 40 of them, they are big strong dogs. I bet that hurt. It's funny these big dogs just have a way of getting under your feet. I'm sure the doctor found that story funny too.
