I am having injections today, March 2nd, and March 30th in my back and I am feeling really scared and nervous. I have had these a couple of years ago which did not really do anything but my doctors are hoping that the injections will help this time. I had back surgery back in July of 2010 and so they are hoping this will help. For weeks now I have had trouble walking and they thought it was my hip but I had a MRI and Bone Scan last week, which showed arthritis in my hip but nothing so bad that a hip replacement would at this time be needed. They think it is something in my back causing the pain and not being able to at times walk.

I have spinal steno-sis so this is going to be ongoing but hopefully surgery will not be needed again for a while. I struggle with these injections and dissociate, but am trying to stay calm today. I will not be alone and will be taking medication to calm me before the injections. I have a sinus infection and cold and I am praying that I do not start coughing when the doctor is doing the injections. Trying to keep us all as calm as I can but struggling as those within are terrified.

Thank you for your prayers.

((((Purples))))....I had this under a year ago I think. It is much less scary than I felt it was.It is fast, and I believe you will all be fine sweetheart.Huggz.Try to distract yourself in the mean time, and try to imagine things going quickly and smoothly.Ah...I am adding to this. So,you have had them before...and you have a cough.I see the dilemma. On the night before and the morning before, can you sit in the bath room with a steamy shower to loosen anything in your chest, and try to clear your lungs?Maybe a type of cough suppressant as well? Sorry that I didn't read properly the first time.Hugs again.
Thanks for this!

Thank you (((((((all)))))))))))) for your thoughts and prayers. I made it through the injection but am struggling still with the pain. The injection did not touch the hip pain and not sure at this point what is going to take place next. The doctor that did the injection was not sure why I was getting the injection in my back but I believe my surgeon was hoping that the hip pain would stop as he thought it was my back.

I am supposed to call Friday to let them know if anything has changed. There is a pocket of fluid around the hip joint on the left, and it may be that hip injections are what is needed. I will let you all know when I know something. It is still very painful and hard to walk at times and sitting for long periods hurts too. I have found myself lying down a lot to not risk falling as at times it seems to catch and I cannot take a step, and pain shoots through my left upper leg.

There is still lower back pain but I am again off balance and seem to be leaning more to the right side which is throwing off my back. I have been using my cane to walk as I do not want to fall and re-injure my knees or worse. Hopefully my doctors will figure out what is going on and get the pain to stop and I'll be able to walk okay again as this is really scaring me to be honest.

Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers. Hugs and loving thoughts. Always.

((((darkpurplesecrets)))))

I see your using a cane. One of the things that I noticed with my mother and her pain is that when she walked she was over using one side to drag the other side along as she was moving around. AND if your off balance and walking crooked this can put too much strain on one side of the body too.

When you had your back scaned from what I remember, what you may have going on in your back is a build up of calcium in your spine that may be irritating your nerves to one side. That is probably why you received an injection in your back to see if that would bring relief to your hip pain. Cortizone takes a few days to feel the effects, if it relieves pain so give it a chance. But pay attention to how you are now walking and if your gate can, infact be the culprit that is causing you added pain.

I had to correct my mothers walking because she began to hunch over and look down which also caused her to irritate her back as well, we are not designed to walk that way. So, I had to retrain her to walk up right looking forward and planning her steps that way. She found that she could eventually walk better, not to mention that she looked YEARS younger.

It is not unusual for people to have one leg slightly longer than the other and what happens is we can end up unknowingly using that side to bear all our weight. Hense we walk crooked and as the years pass one side of us can present pain. I don't know where you live but often a visit to an orthopedic specialist can offer some support that can help to correct the lopsided gaits that we many not be consciously aware of.

Also it may be very helpful to see if you can get some physical therapy that can pinpoint some of the ways you may unknowingly be stressing yourself as I have described above. I don't know why, but often these injections are done and the thought of physical therapy is not presented. So that needs to be addressed by you.

If you get relief by sitting down? That can be due to the fact that often when we sit down we are in a position where our spine is aligned and not stressed by a lopsided gate so we find some relief. When we are not given the right way to move around we are bound to irritate our condition unknowingly.

Just some thoughts you may not have considered.

I have had back surgery back in July of 2010. I have spinal stenosis and at that time my doctor did scrap areas that were closing up and cutting off the nerves, and took out half of a disk that was laying on my sciatic nerve. Also I was hit by an SUV a few years ago when I was getting groceries off the bottom of the cart when it backed into me. But also slipped on black ice last winter in the parking lot. I have had these injections before back surgery and they did nothing.

As far as my walk, I do not hunch over and I try not to favor one side except when there is pain. Otherwise I do walk pretty straight. Sitting down is really not better as when I get up to stand and walk that is when I cannot take a step without pain or my left hip giving out. And I do look forward when I walk and not down at all unless I am crossing water, snow, ice, or something.

I had two total knee replacements in the last two years and the second one just last May so I am not even a year out yet. But I am doing fine with that and there is no problem there. My doctor has been great and they are watching to see how the injection takes. He was not sure that it was the back but wanted to try and see if there was any relief.

Tomorrow will make a week and so far there is no release in the pain or being able to walk at times. There is arthritis in my hip but he said that it was not at this time bad enough to have a hip replacement, which is fine by me. Sometimes I can walk with just some pain but more lately I cannot take a step at all for a few minutes until the pain subsides. Sitting for long periods of time has been hard. Also there has been a popping of the hip when I am standing at times.

I am seeing an orthopedic surgeon and have been for several years now. He is very good and I do trust him.

Oh, thats good darkpurplesecrets. It sounds like your getting good care then. Wow, dear one, you have been through a lot. I am wondering if maybe you could have the hip injected if this injection doesn't provide relief?
