2 Timothy 3:16

16Everything in the Scriptures is God's Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live.

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Mine is worded like this:

2Ti 3:16 - "All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness," (2Ti 3:17 - "that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.")

How are others' written?

(Hope you don't mind my asking this on your thread, SeptemberMorn)

In the New Testament Greek text, the word translated "inspired of God" is: "theopneustos" which literally means "God-breathed." Some Bible versions go with this literal translation. Others, say "inspired by God" or "inspired of God."

AS, don't mind in the least! 2 Timothy 3:16 It just depends on what translation of the Bible you are reading or which one you like best.

For reading, I like the King James version, but I've opened my mind to other translations for the sake of those that stumble on the King James.

I go to BibleGateway.com and check all the translations they have. 2 Timothy 3:16

Thanks, SeptemberMorn. I like to compare different translations. Depending on how it is written, it can sometimes give a clearer idea of what is trying to be said. It also offers an opportunity of further investigation/learning should a particular translation be a little "off," so to speak. (Not that I have found any "glaring" differences in how it has been written - that seems to be reserved more for interpretations).

Oh, and thanks for that website address - will have to check it out!

One of the translations sums up "teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live" with one word, "exhortation." I'd rather have it be made clear, ya know? 2 Timothy 3:16
