Hi Everyone,

My baby brother (he's 51 tomorrow) has a very sick wife. She has a very rare form of cancer and last month had a stem cell transplant. This morning she was put on a respirator because she can no longer breathe on her own due to an infection in her lungs. It actually started a couple of weeks ago when they found a small spot on one of them but could not biopsy it due to her compromised immune system, so they went in with a scope and swabbed it. The results could take a few weeks, but they think it's a fungus. They are aggressively treating her for all possibilities but it will be a few days before we know if she will pull through or not.

My brother has requested that I ask everyone I know to pray for her, so in addition to my friends and neighbors, I am asking my PC family as well.

Thank you all!

WW

Update

She improved a little overnight. Apparently, she needed two respirators and they were able to take her off of one, and so far she's able to breathe with the one. She began showing signs of kidney failure, so she is also needing minimal dialysis, but the doctors are still optimistic and my brother, after getting no sleep for days, is resting at home.

Keep it up, folks! It's working!

Thank you so very, very much!

New update,

Baby bro called this morning and said they have reduced her sedatives and muscle relaxers. She still has the respirator and needs dialysis, but the antibiotics are working and they are basically waiting for her body to help fight the infections. There's a possibility she might wake up today. Here's hoping!

I'm looking forward to the day when I can talk to my brother and he is no longer completely exhausted. I can hear it in his voice.

Please keep up the prayers.

Thanks so much!

WW

The doctors did an MRI on her brain a couple of days ago because the only thing she can do is open her eyes when asked to do so. If asked to squeeze her hand, no response at all. My brother hasn't returned my phone call yet, which tells me it's probably not good news, but I am still hopeful and praying for her recovery. My biggest concern is that her body is rejecting the transplant.

Please keep up the prayers as there is still hope as long as she is still alive.

Thank you all!!

SHE'S AWAKE!! AND TALKING, TOO!!

She woke up yesterday morning. She's off the respirator and the dialysis, too! She's very weak after being unconscious for three weeks, and will need physical therapy. She doesn't have the strength to even press the call button for the nurses, so someone has to be with her all the time. As my brother said, "I got my wife back!"

Blessings to all who prayed for her recovery. She still has a long way to go, but here's hope that the worst is past us.

Still so far so good. She's slowly getting her strength back and we are cautiously optimistic. It will still be several more months before her immune system is fully 'operational' (sorry, can't think of a better word LOL) but at least my brother has been able to go back to work.

Thanks again, everyone. Y'all are AWESOME!

Well, so much for progress.

Today they had to put her back on the respirator and dialysis. My brother spoke with the transplant doctor this morning, and she said this happens in about 30 percent of the cases after a stem cell transplant. Before the transplant, they were told there was a 3 to 5% change she wouldn't survive which is way better odds than not treating the cancer. They tried several other treatments before deciding on the transplant but none of them worked for long.

I am still optimistic but I'm beginning to realize this is going to be a roller-coaster ride for quite a while yet, it seems.

Thanks again, everyone!

Blessings,

WW
