Do any of you know of him? I am thinking of going to a week-long seminar at Bellarmine Univ. in Louisville in the spring, which will be devoted to his writings and philosophy. I rarely go anywhere, but I think this is just what I need.

I'm somewhat familiar with Merton's writings. I can imagine this would be just a wonderful opportunity!
Thanks for this!

Merton's writing is very spiritually focused. Here are some short synopses of books he's written:

Thanks, Skeezyks and emgreen. I bookmarked the site you sent, emgreen.
This is a program thru Elderhostel, which offers educational vacations all over the world. I've made my reservation! I'm excited. Between now and March, I'll be doing more reading by and about Merton.

This is a fantastic opportunity. By all means go if you can. A week of studying Merton would do anyone a world of good.

I love Thomas Merton! His autobiography, The Seven Storey Mountain, is one of the best books I've ever read. I'm Catholic, but I think people of other faiths (or no faith at all) can still read and enjoy Merton's work. He was pretty open-minded in his outlook, even wrote a few books on Zen.

The seminar sounds like a wonderful opportunity. I hope you enjoy it!

I haven't read his books but Sue Monk Kidd often mentions him in her books as an inspiration, and I really enjoy her books.

Reading "No Man is an Island" at present. His writing style is somewhat slow going to me but I really do like the heart of the message. I heard of him via Thich Nacht Han's work. It sounds like a good opportunity!
