paganism is the celebration and worship of nature, the earth and all that is good with the world. with the thought of what energy you give out into the world, good or bad will come back around to you. kind of like karma but kind of not. it's not anything like it is in the movies and it's just loving nature for all that it is and it's also very equal of the sexes. There isn't just one God believed to be a Man or Woman, The deities are either genderless or there is both masculine and feminine imagery. It's really just a laid back, easy going religion allowing you to decipher your own beliefs as long as they harm no one

to me, it's important to understand what every major religion/belief system teaches, because when you see the same 'truth' in each of them, you can be sure it's a large part of the human experience.
i personally understand 'paganism' to be a system of practices which are related to crops, health, and fertility. it was practiced, in many forms, by the people who understood that they depended on the earth for their lives. it often involved astronomy as well; knowing when to plant, when to harvest. it almost always included ceremonies around the equinoxes and solstices, and was usually 'circular' in nature - as the world turns... all that being said, i like to remember the hindu practice of seeing a divine awareness in everything, and believing one can communicate with that. i hope we can regain our awareness of the 'circle of life' and 'divine awareness' before it is too late for our planetary home to sustain us~
