Tonight is a time when I'm feeling thankful for beautiful memories. Painless memories (I think we need more of these).

Some favorite memories of mine from childhood are of my dad, farming, being with animals, and shockingly my memories of my dad's church. His church, to go inside, is immaculate. A stone church built in 1820...it sits atop a hillside...very beautiful. I always loved going inside...beautiful high ceilings...just so much beautiful architecture...

How strange it seems to me now that any building could be more beautiful. Maybe it was this beautiful building that has sparked my interest in architecture...I seem to find such beauty in old things...old buildings and houses...and I am asking why would anyone ever want to modernize anything!!!! Memories

I suppose there are some things that should be left in the past, and there are some that become a part of the past, whether we want them to or not. I see nothing wrong with modernization as long as it is tasteful.

we have a family church i like to lay spiritual claim on.. it was built in the late 1800's... really a beauty.... Catholic, with all the trimmings..... survived many storms.... absolutiely beautiful.... a black steeple and cross.... when it stands against the weather, something just stirs inside me

Yeah...it seemed the older churches are just so majestic...so beautiful. I tried to find a pic of my dad's church but couldn't find any...ours is a St. Michael's church...

One thing I always loved was how they decorated the inside of the church during holidays...especially around Christmas. Just these beautiful white lights and white trees. Even to this day I do not decorate anything with any color but white and I've always loved the way snow sits on trees in the wintertime...

aw, thanks muffy, i do have sweet old memories of that church... Gramma worshiped there.. i was a child, full of wonderment... playing on the big lot next to the church where we lived.... as a child my perspective was that everything was just the way it should be.. there was little else to know about the world... the grownups were taking care of that... so i wondered about this beautiful building and its beautiful windows and paintings... the ceremony was so mysterious and sacred...

amen to that... the colors of the Christmas trees against the snow is really uplifitng... i love the effort some people put into decorating... it shows spirit to me...

Sky, i love the colors of the glass in your pic.. the way the lines in the pic show the verticles is interesting to me... it inspires an uplook towards the pinnacle... where God would be at the top i imagine... well, God is everywhere in my view, but thats just my view and "God" is just the word i use....

Thanks nwtr... here's the atrium view. I have been a member of many old churches (in MO) but this one inspires me. Just wish Dr Kennedy was there. Memories

i am saying a silent prayer for Dr. Kennedy, Sky....

i love the blue hues in the pic.... combining what TG1 said regarding white with the hues in this pic makes me think of color therapy... see what ADD can do to someone? lol

i am certain the windows are magnificent in full sunlight... ive admired good glasswork for my whole life..... i can get a sense of the awesome inspiration you must feel standing inside...

Thank you nwtr, but in our faith, prayers for those who have passed are already there! Memories

Yes, awesome building... and then add the music (117 rank Ruffatti organ).... and the Spirit felt within (building and body) ahhh! When they dress it for our religious holidays, it is truly spectacularly glorious! Memories I have such great memories of discussions all too short with Dr Kennedy...and other "famous" people who go there. I am unable to attend as I wish now as it takes so much to do so.
